Every cake that leaves our kitchen in McKinney, Texas is baked to order. Nothing sits in a display case waiting for a buyer. That is why the most common question we hear is not "what flavors do you have" but "how soon can you have it ready." This guide answers that question honestly, with the lead times we actually work with, so you can plan a celebration without guessing.

The short answer: three to five days for most cakes

For a standard cake from our gallery, we ask for three to five days between your request and the day you need it. That window gives us time to confirm your order by email or phone, buy fresh fruit and dairy, bake the sponge, let it settle, fill and finish it properly, and chill it so it holds its shape on the drive home.

A Classic Birthday Cake with light cream frosting, a Strawberry Cream Cake with fanned berries, or our signature Chocolate Mirror Glaze Cake all fall into this group. They are designs we know well, so the work is in the baking rather than in planning.

Our website form asks for a date at least two days out. That is the technical minimum for the form to accept a request. It is not a promise that two days is always enough, especially on a busy weekend, so treat three to five days as the comfortable range and two days as the exception.

Why baking to order takes time

It helps to see what happens between your request and the finished cake. When we say a cake is handcrafted, this is what we mean.

  • Day one: we read your request, check the calendar and confirm availability by email or phone.
  • Day two: we shop for the ingredients the cake needs and bake the sponge or pastry layers.
  • Day three: layers rest and are filled; mousse and glaze cakes set in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Day four: finishing, from smooth cream and drips to fondant figures and lettering.
  • Day five: final chill, boxing, and pickup or chilled delivery.

Not every cake uses all five days, and some steps overlap, but the rhythm is real. A mousse entremet like our Pink Velour Mousse Cake cannot be rushed, because the layers need proper setting time before the velour finish goes on. A honey cake with caramel cream, the base of our Dinosaur Adventure Cake, tastes better after the layers have had a day to soften into each other.

A few cakes in our gallery look simple but still need the full five days. Our White & Gold Celebration Cake is a good example. The smooth cream finish needs a properly chilled, settled cake underneath, and the gilded name and chocolate spheres are added last, once the surface is firm. Skipping a day shows in the finish, so we do not skip it.

Use the table as a planning tool, not a rulebook. If your date is closer than the range suggests, ask anyway. If it is farther out, you lose nothing by ordering early.

Wedding cakes and large custom designs: two to three weeks

Wedding cakes and large custom designs need two to three weeks. Part of that is baking time, but most of it is the conversation before we bake. We look at your inspiration photo or description, suggest a design, flavors and price, and wait for you to confirm. Only then does the date go on our calendar, secured with a small deposit.

A tiered cake also needs structural planning: internal supports, flavors that work across tiers, and a delivery plan. Wedding cakes are delivered and set up on site by our team, so we also need the venue address, the setup window and a contact person for the day. We cover all of this in our wedding cake planning guide, which is worth reading before you send a request.

If a full tiered cake is more than you need, a single large cake such as our Wedding Berry Cheesecake with a personalized topper still counts as a custom order, but it usually sits at the shorter end of the range because there is no tier construction involved.

Next-day requests and busy weekends

Life happens. A surprise party comes together on a Thursday, or a relative flies in unannounced. If you need a cake tomorrow, call us at +1-214-504-4085 rather than using the form. The form will not accept a date less than two days out, and email is slower than a phone call when the clock is running.

Sometimes we can help. It depends on what is already in the oven, whether we have the ingredients on hand, and how complex the cake is. A simple cream cake or a box of French Macarons is far more likely than a fondant figure cake. We will tell you plainly on the phone whether it can be done.

What we will not do is promise a next-day cake and then hand over something rushed. If we cannot make it well, we will say so, and we would rather lose the order than send out a cake we are not proud of.

Busy weekends in Collin County are the other thing to plan around. Some dates on the North Texas calendar are in demand everywhere: graduation weekends in May, the run of birthdays and pool parties over summer break, the wedding months of spring and fall, and the stretch from Thanksgiving through New Year. Mother's Day and Valentine's Day are short windows with a lot of cake in them.

If your celebration lands in one of these periods, add a few days to every range above. A standard cake that normally needs three days is safer at five. A wedding cake that would normally be fine at two weeks is safer at three or more. We would rather tell you a date is taken than squeeze in an order we cannot finish properly.

What to have ready when you order

An order moves faster when the request is complete. Before you fill in the form or call, have these details ready:

  • The date and time you need the cake, and whether you will pick up or need delivery.
  • The number of guests, so we can suggest a size. Our cake serving size guide helps you estimate.
  • Flavor preferences and any allergies. Most of our cakes can be made nut-free and alcohol-free, and we offer reduced-sugar and vegetarian options on request. Our kitchen handles gluten, dairy, eggs and nuts, so traces cannot be fully excluded, and we can send a full ingredient list with any order.
  • Any lettering, name, age or topper text, spelled exactly as you want it to appear.
  • For custom designs, a photo or a short description of the idea.

Once we have this, we confirm by email or phone. For custom and wedding cakes we send a proposal with design, flavors and price before you commit to anything. Standard gallery cakes are paid on pickup or delivery, so there is no deposit to arrange.

Pickup, delivery and the day itself

Pickup at our bakery at 229 Adonis Cir in McKinney is free, Monday through Saturday from 9 in the morning to 6 in the evening. We are closed on Sunday, so a Sunday celebration means a Saturday pickup or delivery, and that is worth building into your timeline from the start.

Chilled delivery within McKinney is available for a small flat fee, and delivery with on-site setup for weddings and events is quoted individually. If you are collecting the cake yourself, plan the drive: keep the box flat on the car floor or in the trunk with the air conditioning running, never on a seat. Our guide on how to store and transport a cake in the Texas heat has the full routine, including how long before serving to take the cake out of the refrigerator.

Ready to order?

There is no downside to ordering early. Your date is secured, we have time to buy the best fruit, and you have one less thing to think about in the week of the party. Browse the catalog to pick a design, or if you have something specific in mind, send a photo or describe it through the custom order form and we will come back to you with a proposal.

For a standard cake, three to five days is enough. For a wedding or a large custom design, give us two to three weeks. For tomorrow, pick up the phone. We bake everything to order here in McKinney, and we will always tell you honestly what is possible.
